The History of Horror

Horror is one of the most popular forms of cinema, which has audiences all over the world today watching. It is also one of the most profitable genres for film studios. Although in the 20^th Century, this was not the case. Over the last one hundred years, horror has moved in and out of the film trend. It is only fairly recently that horror has been recognised as one of the basis’ of conventional cinema.

Gothic literature inspired many novels to be made into movies, such as; A Christmas Carol, Wuthering Heights and Dracula.

The first horror films made were silent movies, which laid out codes and conventions of the horror genre, which are still being advocated today. In the 1930’s sound was then added to the movies, which made a huge impact on the films.
